The For Better Project is a research-backed movement to unite businesses, community leaders, and consumers around a goal of safer communities with more opportunity and connection.
The aim of the project is to create community safety solutions that are localized and sustained through the unique power of small businesses. When there are strong small businesses led by owners who live in their communities, more money and opportunity stay in that community. When those resources circulate, people prosper and crime drops. See the full fact sheet for the project here for more information.
In November 2025, we launched a map of over 150 Great Lakes region small businesses that are committed to taking action for safer communities. You can explore and shop the map here.
In 2026, we'll work with small businesses, local leaders, and neighbors to pilot business-led solutions for community safety.
