Guns Down America Statement on Senate Gun Violence Proposal

June 12, 2022

Washington, D.C. -- Guns Down America Executive Director Igor Volsky released the following statement in reaction to media reports that Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) and John Cornyn (R-TX) have released a compromise proposal to address our nation’s epidemic of gun violence.

“The bipartisan group of senators led by Sens. Chris Murphy and John Cornyn deserves significant credit for making progress toward reducing gun violence and working to break the cycle of inaction in Washington D.C. This proposal contains innovative ideas that have the potential to make a real difference and it deserves bipartisan support in the Senate. Senator Schumer must prioritize this package and should not allow the Senate to go on recess until the Senate holds a vote on this critical life-saving legislation.

“If anything has become clear this year, it is that our elected officials must act. Our lives should never be subject to political compromise and if our country fails to meet the moment yet again, we will hold our elected officials – both Democrats and Republicans – accountable to ensure they will focus on doing the hard work of building a safer future with fewer guns."
