Speech is a Good Start; Bold Action Must Follow

Washington, D.C. -- Guns Down America founder Igor Volsky released the following statement on President Joe Biden's joint address to Congress today calling for the Senate to take up an assault weapons bill and background check bill:

“Tonight, President Biden pledged to ‘do everything in my power to protect the American people from this epidemic of gun violence.’ Over the coming weeks and months we will hold the President accountable to this pledge by ensuring that the administration and the Senate Majority Leader create a viable path forward for passing robust life-saving gun reform legislation and community investments to ensure we see progress on this critical issue before the end of the year,” said Igor Volsky, founder and executive director of Guns Down America. "The time is now for President Biden to use all the tools at his disposal to build a safer future with fewer guns.”

So far this year, more than 13,000 Americans have been killed by guns and our nation experienced at least 166 mass shooting incidents in which four or more people were shot. Without further action, these numbers will only grow as the number of guns in our country has surged during the pandemic.
